I have been working at Procter & Gamble as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Learning and growing as a leader is a natural byproduct of being here. Employees are extremely intelligent, benefits and compensation are decent. There are many opportunities to network, and the company makes an effort to make you feel welcomed and comfortable with your work. P&G is also a leader in almost every industry they play in. Flexible with work ing from home as a full-time employee. Strong values that are more than just lip service.

Cons

Very political, extremely slow decision-making process results in a lot of no-value-added work. Lots of bureaucracy, risk-adverse, people are set in their ways and are not willing to accept change even though they are expecting you to make change. On the reverse side, sometimes things are fine the way they are, but P&G insists on wasting extraordinary cost and effort to try to change it. Downsizing has resulted in many layoffs, reduced company morale, people leaving the company, and too much work for too few people. Work life balance really varies by group and only seems to be heading in a negative direction. There are no "clock in" hours but many people end up regularly working nights and weekends. As an intern, there is very little group work.

Advice to Management

Make an effort to communicate with your employees better in order to understand the real problems in the trenches rather than fix things that aren't broken.

I have been working at Procter & Gamble full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most people you work with are decent, trustworthy. Good compensation, the company takes good care of you. Fairly flat organization. You can do whatever you choose to as long you connect it to the business and deliver. Amazing foundational value system called PVP. Very high ethics...

    Cons

Too soft on low performers. Too many "leaders" and very few "followers". Everyone wants to lead and few wants to really work and deliver something. Some have rigged the system, so by simply playing enough politics they grow until they hit the wall...too much rope...they do finally hang but only after too much damage...even if you are a top performer, promotions are very slow...middle management is essentially powerless...Technically shallow...too much internal competition

    Advice to Management

Create a truly performance based system. Don't run the company just on relationships...make Zero tolerance for internal competition and politics. Allow young people to grow fast, create official fast path for the really capable...bring back entrepreneurial spirit...
