Pros

Good people and a decent pay. Fun to work in consumer goods. Everyone gets to see your products, its easy to explain what you do. Benefits are best of all my friends Get good stuff in the store for very little work. Co-workers are generally very competent.

Cons

Long hours make personal life tough. I find myself working from home a lot.
I also have to travel quite a bit between all the buildings in the area with no compensation. The other benefits are very good but gas is going up quickly. Some of the managers are very beauracratic and sometimes get lost looking high level.

Advice to Management

Recognize hard work in a more appropriate way, even if just verbally.

    Pros

The promote from within mentality means that there is amazing training opportunities. Many folks start out of college and are groomed in P&G ways. It's almost like an MBA. There is a large focus on skill development. It is a very honest and ethical place to work. The pay is competitive and you will be working with and for some very competent people.

    Cons

Procter is so large that you tend to have to stay in one function. Or move at early stages of your career. This limits your ability to move up and impact the business in different ways. Unless you start in Brand. As a US manager there is a good chance you will be located in Cincinnati. International assignments have dried up considerably and travel dollars are dwindling.

    Advice to Management

Allow for more cross-functional assignments. Reward future leaders with international assignments. Find new ways to compensate for strong results. Everyone knows that whether you are good or bad, you'll get a raise.

    Pros

P&G has some of the smartest and most honest employees you will find anywhere. All employees are treated with respect and pushed to find ways to improve their skills and job performance. HIgh level managers focus on providing constructive feedback to encourage growth among newer employees. No wonder the company keeps managing to meet such ambitious goals. Stock plan is better than any 401K matching and hard to beat.

    Cons

The company is still somewhat conservative and changes can be slow. Communication between and across departments needs to improve. There appear to be some personality issues in R&D that HR needs to address.

    Advice to Management

Work on ways to improve connections across the organization to eliminate rework and maximize return on investment.
