No opinion of CEO

I worked at Professional Educational Services Group as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

Lots of opportunity to be a self-motivated, proactive worker. I was able to get assignments every day in advance by covering a large enough area.

Cons

No structural support provided to employees. There was no supervision. To regularly get jobs one had to be willing to travel very long distances to work. This also undermined ability to develop and connection with any given set of students.

Advice to Management

There needs to be some support given to substitutes.

    Pros

Simple point and click interface for getting sub jobs.
Makes subbing in multiple districts easy
Cost saving measure for most school districts.

    Cons

They take weeks or even months to get any changes made to your account, including direct deposit information, actually signing up to be a sub, adding districts to your list and a host of other services
Totally impersonal - their customer service people are generally rude, and your only link to the company you work for.
Won't allow you to change your mind once you've accepted a sub job - if you change your mind and want to cancel a job the same day you accept it, they will not allow you to sub again that day.
Barely-above-minimum-wage pay rates attracts less than desirable subs, as well as parapros and other support staff that are in rooms with the kids every day.
The only offered benefits are 401K, with isn't matched, and health insurance, witch is so expensive through them that you can get better private insurance for less money.

    Advice to Management

Review your policies and look for employee feedback. Since there is no management to employee connection, mismanagement quickly becomes a problem. Connect with your employees and they will be better employees.
Raising pay rates will allow you to hire a higher caliber of employee. At the moment, any college junior without an arrest record can become a PESG employee, or indeed anyone who's attended 3 years of college and is looking for stop gap employment, without an arrest record. The bar is currently pretty low... by attempting actual job interviews you can more selectively choose your subs, and serve your customer (the school districts) better.
Streamline your employee services. It currently takes far too long to get anything done. Look into ways to make simple changes like direct deposit take effect withing a day or less.
