I have been working at Progress Energy Florida as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Everyone is very helpful. Theres a lot to learn and so many mentors willing to teach. The nuclear atmosphere is very safe and you really feel like the work you are doing is important.

Cons

In my department, Electrical/I&C Maintenance, there are no opportunities to design and innovate. Work mainly concentrates on maintaining and assuring proper function and safety.

Advice to Management

Upper management does a great job interacting with their employees,

    Pros

The people I worked with were among the best. Dedicated to doing the best they could for a customer and the the company. It is a difficult position given some customers situations.
Benefits are good and pay is good for the type of position.

    Cons

Customers are sometimes abusive when they cannot get "what they want".
Constant expectations of shorter call times when the calls are generally complex
Selling different Progress Energy services to meet quotas.
Getting out of Call Services to another department is almost impossible.

    Advice to Management

Stop comparing the employees to the 3rd party company you hired to take the "less complex" calls.
Allow more movement out of the Call Center Environment.
Treat your call center service people as the professionals they are.

    Pros

The professional atmosphere and the flexible work schedules that allow hard work meshed with time with family is a great combination. The opportunities for other jobs within the company continue to grow.

    Cons

The stigma from the public for working for a utility company. No one like to pay utilties bills but everyone at the company is working hard to keep costs down.
