I worked at Public Storage full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Good experience to deal with irate customers, collections and the general knowledge of the storage industry.

Cons

Micro-managing, giant corporate pressure, don't care much about their customers or the property managers

Advice to Management

Treat your property managers with more respect and care. THEY are the ones running your business and attempting to keep your customers happy! STOP MICRO-MANAGING!!!

I have been working at Public Storage full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nice and constant work hours.

Ability to live onsite, so you don't have to drive to work and home.

    Coworkers make this job fun.

    Cons

Customers tend to come in at the last minute so you have to stay late quite often.

Pay sucks unless you get an apartment.

Customers can be really rude and hard to deal with.

Bonus pay has gotten worse and worse every year.

Living onsite means customers can bug you at any time.

Puic storage wants you to help the customers, but ties your hands, by not allowing you to waive late fees or get items fixed on property.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees better and there wouldn't be such a big turnover, and we would actually sell public storage to our customers.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Work schedule is great off by 6pm
usually no manager there breathing down your back
    401k is good

    Cons

No support if you have an issue
    no feedback on good job
all about the numbers and not enough focus on customer service.
Raising rent on long time tenants is just wrong.

    Advice to Management

Give the employees recognition when it is due, don't just always point out the bad or the mistake. Focus more on the customer service and maybe the company will make more money. Stop threatening the employees when they don't make goals. and try to accommodating those employees that have religious beliefs and give them at least some Sundays off. Promote from within the company and don't keep the property manager at that level if they are ready promote them to district manager.
