I worked at Publix part-time (More than a year)

Pros

The other employees are generally dark, humorous people that have equal dislike for customers and management. It's refreshing.

Cons

Management is typically highly inflexible when it comes to changing your schedule. There are several hoops you must jump through, and even then, that is no guarantee you will get the days off you request.

    Pros

They never lay people off. They are very open minded when it comes to hiring people. Tattoo friendly. they allow for flexible schedules.

    Cons

People always say working for publix is great. And publix has managed to convince their customers that the employees are treated so well and are so happy with their company, however that is a facade. There is this false sense of family they like to perpetuate however gossip and backstabbing are in abundance at Publix. Too much favoritism. Pay is mediocre at best and raises go from 5 cents to 25 cents twice a year. Unbelievably hard to advance and to get full time. Very easy to get stuck in a position you don't like. Really difficult to get health benefits.

Also they unfortunately schedule part time employees with no benefits to work 9-10 hour days regularly.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking because you are management that you own people. Stop being so judgmental, talking smack about employees to other employees, writing people off. And give more people opportunities.

I worked at Publix part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable company, generally the management is competent, certainly above average for the industry. Very flexible hours for part-time employees, open door policy with management.

    Cons

Long shifts(many times even as part-time I worked up to 11hour shifts), on your feet all day, many high school aged associates,

    Advice to Management

Make sure the store manager takes time to make all employees feel valued.
