I worked at Publix part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-- Sense of comraderie. I made a lot of new friends that I still have even after leaving.
    -- Easily transfer from store-to-store and department-to-department
-- Lots of room to move up -- LOTS. Just make your desire known and do a good job and you're almost guaranteed a promotion.
-- If your store is in a good area, customers are very nice and become regulars, often knowing your name and stopping you to chit chat about your life. There's a definite sense of caring between customer and employee, no matter your rank.
-- There's tuition reimbursement, 401K, stock options, lots of benefits that will EVENTUALLY pay off.
-- Always opening new stores, there's a lot of job security unless you steal or something.

    Cons

-- Late nights sometimes, depending on your role.
-- Extensive cleaning can suck: mop room, drains, spot-mopping floors, store sweep.
-- Store politics can be rampant. Managers playing favorites with hours/promotions/general treatment.
-- Dramaaaa galore, especially with younger associates. Don't date in the work place.
-- Customer Is Always Right mantra, which means you'll get spoken down to and called an idiot for something you didnt do and/or when you actually ARE right. Don't expect the managers to back you up.
-- Can take awhile to be promoted to full-time or "mini-management", like team leader positions, and even longer into full management positions. Varies by store and district.

    Advice to Management

Publix as a corporation is ran well, it's the management in the stores that needs tweaking sometimes. Associates notice the favoritism and politics, I'd work on keeping it professional.
