Pros

Good balance of hard work and life balance. Some employees surf before work or on lunch. Team oriented. HR was re-org'd over the last couple of years to the great improvement of the employee experience.

Cons

They stopped the 401k match and postponed raises while the exiting executives have sweet golden parachutes.

Great office space for executives and creatives but support staff is permanently "exiled" to a reconverted office space in a dank warehouse. Much effort has been invested in brightening the workspace, but 0 daylight will always be 0 daylight.

Advice to Management

If budget is an issue, it would be better to let go of the underperformers and redundant staff. The elimination of benefits and raises alienates your most talented employees who are no doubt actively seeking other opportunities.
Even in this economy, the job market has not evaporated.

Rossignol acquisition was a clash of the elite vs. the edge. Quiksilver is core. Watch Animal House and observe the friction between the fraternities. Merging those fraternities is similar to Quiksilver incorporating Rossignol into its brand family.

Quiksilver is a male dominated company, except for HR leadership. Have an administrative employee send out HR notices on behalf of the VP of HR rather than the VP of HR herself. The other executives have their administrative assistants send most of their company-wide email. For as long as mohgany row is primarily populated men, the notices that come directly from the VP of HR tarnish her credibility as a key executive of the company.

    Pros

The Atmosphere! Quiksilver is a great company to be surrounded by a great group of people who know how to have fun and work hard at the same time. Quiksilver is a place to see people skateboard down the halls, and surf on their lunch break. There is just a sense of pride when you tell fellow southern Californians that you work for a company like Quiksilver, not matter what you do, you know that you are a part of a great culture related company. Quiksilver is definitely improving upon their image constantly, and evolving their brand. Being a part of a company that you know will continue to be a staple in Southern California gives you a sense of pride in doing your job tht you can't find in many other places.

    Cons

As of right now, Quiksilver's corporate office is really in three separate buildings, which tends to cut people off from each other. Departments that really should be communicating face to face on a daily basis find it hard to meet with each other. While some departments are very close to each other, with no problems facing their work, others communicate strictly by e-mail and sometimes it feels as though you are talking to someone in a completely different company.
And as an intern who is not paid, but constantly reminded that I am doing the work of an entry level position, I cannot guarantee that they are the most generous when it comes to compensation.

    Advice to Management

I would simply talk to your employees more. There are over a thousand people working at the corporate office, so I would not expect you to know every persons name. But their are so many people with questions, concerns, and amazing ideas that could really help the company. I would just talk to the people that really know how this company runs.

    Pros

Laid back, Great atmosphere, Great Corporate perks like 50% off everything we make, California passes for a fraction of the price. Awesome parties!

    Cons

No real leadership, everyone does their own thing.
