Pros

Globally recognizable brand name of "Caterpillar" looks good on your resume. This is the only reason to work for this company.

Cons

Competitive salary to them means that their maximum pay for a job position is equal to the average salary range for industry. If you work hard for years, the best that you'll do is make average salary compared to others doing the same thing for other companies. This also means that if you are getting anything less than the maximum, you are getting paid less than most people doing the same thing you are, elsewhere.

Management is promoted from within, but lacking any training, so management doesn't know what they are doing and are often times unprofessional in a bad way. Promotions are usually for old white men so if you are not old, white or male, you're out of luck. Management is virtually all old white men. Their management methods were already obsolete decades ago.

Advice to Management

This place is an insult to equal opportunity employers, with their claim to be such.

I worked at Quinn Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked here for over 15 years at different locations and its s good place to get a foundation.
    Ok communication between departments.

    Cons

Pays well below journey level until youve been here a while. Other than pay its a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to cut back on unessential expenses amd invest more in the employees. Make more training available for the younger guys.

    Pros

The headquarters is right off the freeway and the building was just opened a couple of years ago. My actual job is interesting.

    Cons

If you want to go back and work in the 1950’s, or earlier, then Quinn Company is the place for you. The company is run almost entirely by an inner circle of white men. This despite the fact that they’re based in the suburbs of Los Angeles which is one of the most diverse areas in the country. Have Quinn show you an org chart and ask how many women, Hispanic or African American key leaders there are in say the top 10 or top 50 positions. They have a few higher-level managers, but mostly only at the lower-level. Yes, the construction industry is more male dominated, but this is 2016 not the 1950’s.

And of course, this type of culture leads to some chauvinistic/sexist/discriminatory attitudes, behavior and comments, especially if you are a woman. Not enough to get sued, but enough to be very uncomfortable if you are a women or a racial/ethnic minority.

If you want to get ahead in management only come to Quinn if you are a while male!

    Advice to Management

One Senior Manager is well-known to be a major perv that is overly talkative to women and likes to stare. Many male and female employees know this, but apparently not the people in charge, because he stares all the time. Very creepy!
