I have been working at Quirky full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good salary, great people, meaningful work. There's a lot of interesting projects going on, and the management is smart and on top of things.

Cons

Perhaps not the best stock options, leave after 7 or 8 every day. Many people at the company oscillates between confident fervor and disillusionment because the ambition of the company is so huge. But most of us believe completely.

    Pros

Innovative company, great all-around view of the interspace between manufacturing, design, outreach and crowdsourcing (though don't you dare use that word!)

beautiful office, free booze during mandatory eval sessions, macs?

    Cons

the people, the attitude, the lack of consistent management and no clear hierarchy of workflow. egotism, gossipy, non-welcoming staff, no avenues for feedback

It's a startup. Startups can be great, because they give you the chance to work in different areas, put your sweat into the project and feel a real sense of teamwork and accomplishment (not to mention while learning a ton). However, in this case, it's a bit of a crapshoot. Go through the clips and footage publicity stunt they threw with OXO

    Advice to Management

Your founder doesn't need to be in control of/the face of/ the spokesman for all things. Let someone in there who can actually lead your team members and continue to boost that sense of pride and morale, something that will be more important than the money in determining Quirky's enduring success. Make sure people in management positions actually understand what it means to be a good manager and are fit to lead a successful team. Don't lead team meetings if you're not actually including your staff in the decision making or more intricate details. If you're just gonna tell us, just send an email maybe?

A bit disorganized, and compensation was low.

    Advice to Management

Great and fun place to work, but more respect for the employees who are extremely dedicated and believe in the mission of the company.
