I have been working at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Hard work rewarded with better opportunities (depending on the right manager)
Great and smart co-workers
Flexibility (working from home, flex-time)
Ideal atmosphere to learn

Cons

Worst health insurance plan and cost ever (high deductible plan, high paycheck cost.)
Poor merit increase based on across-the-board rate (1%) instead of actual performance review.
Miserable bonus ($300 discretionary)
No 401K matching
Lousy working environment (tables, chairs instead of professional cubicles)
No formal training, everything is on-the-job, learn as you go.
Non-existent HR (miles away in Detroit and New York)
No recognition (5-year, employee of the month, etc.)
No company-related events (Christmas party, summer picnic and outings, etc.)

Advice to Management

Make insurance plan competitive (co-pay plan, lower cost)
Make merit increase based on actual performance review
Improve bonus to salary percentage (not fixed amount)
Have substantial 401K matching
Invest in formal technical training.
Have an in-house HR on every RRD location.

I have been working at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

First of all this is not scholastic proofreading for grammar. The compensation is quite decent though the benefits are diminishing as they are with other companies I imagine. There are plenty of opportunities for overtime and the ability to move to different departments within the company after you put your time in. Which will aid in gaining experience for other jobs. The job is easy with plenty of downtime. Indirect customer service (no contact with customers). Immediate supervisors are nice, respectable yet carry a refreshing sense of levity and humor. If you can deal with corporate politics and evening/night hours, it's a good job. I would recommend this job to a friend as I know there are worse jobs out there.

    Cons

Excessively SOP orientated with a suffocating amount of bureaucracy which means logic and freethinking are highly discouraged. Without getting too personal, Phoenix is begrudgingly not run like other, amazingly efficient sites and PHX management remains muddleheaded. The hours can be rather erratic during busy periods and as a new hire, you will most likely be hired for a second (4 pm to midnight-ish) or third shift (9 pm to 5 am). You will probably have to wait until the 2024 presidential election for a chance to move to the day shift in this particular department.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the stultifying amount of superfluous processes and adopt those of other sites.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Many products and services to sell along with good asset base... People are good in certain areas but everyone seems to pass on the work to others..

    Cons

Don't care about sales people any longer.. They think because its RRD that people will buy...Mistake.. Commission plan is horrible and no incentive to sell small orders. They pay on profit not gross sales and the profit number is FICTION... No Salary just commission...

    Advice to Management

Get back to basics... It's STILL all about relationships and mgmt needs to recognize this.. If they did, sales would increase... Take care of employees and customers .. profits will follow..
