I worked at RMF Engineering full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Coworkers were generally great. Free alcohol at company parties. The illusion of management giving a crap is easy to believe at first, so the first month or two is nice. Access to resources and reimbursement for development (if you have time for it).

    Cons

Very long hours and you get chewed out for anything less than 50. 60-70 hour weeks were the average during busy times and 55-60 during times considered low on work. Massive work loads with tight deadlines. Seems like they only care about cranking out the bare minimum work until you’re so overworked you quit or make a massive mistake worth being discharged over. Everyone is working until the very last minute just to... meet the bare minimum requirements for code/AHJ approval. Overnighters are common. Saturday and Sunday workdays are common. Working the day of a submission is basically the only option because of the workload. There is no coverage if you have to take sick leave, so you are either going to work sick or pulling a very long day/week after missing even one day. Pay is low, especially considering the hours and responsibilities. Designers/engineers handle much more than their job description and get chastised for anything less. I was once told I should be learning at home but shouldn’t expect to be paid for it (not like you get overtime anyway, nor does the bonus make up for it). You’re expected to go above and beyond but the recognition/compensation for it is nonexistent. It’s a place to burn out. If you have no family, friends, or pets, I still wouldn’t recommend it.

    Advice to Management

Distribute work loads better. Hire an appropriate amount of people. Don’t expect people to sacrifice literally everything else for RMF. Just because management is okay with being on call 24/7 doesn’t mean that should be the norm. Stop focusing on putting on a facade of caring and actually do something about the working conditions.

I have been working at RMF Engineering full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Collaborative teams of friends align to provide detailed design documentation to high profile clients. Firm invests big time in its employees through internal education like Leadership Development Program, and Project Management Training. Firm leadership is actively listening and applying input from young employees through the "Ascension Group" program. Great freedom and flexibility for high performing employees!

    Cons

People who just want to show up at a job and not grow or take on personal responsibility will not fit well in the more dynamic performance oriented environment. People who require rigid processes may find the more flexible environment challenging.

    Advice to Management

Continue to boost flexibility, as technology allows, in the workplace for drafter and designer level employees.
