"Owner fiddles while company burns - through cash every month."

    Pros

Small company with some very dedicated people, providing a necessary service, collecting debts from companies and individuals. Collectors are dedicated and professional and collection rates are good for the most part. Small office but collegial atmosphere within collections. Opportunity to really expand the business by adding new clients and working the existing customer base.

    Cons

Management operates in the dark ages, old computers, no e-mails, awful web site and rules are arbitrary and capricious. Owner is nearly 80 years old and has not adapted to how business is conducted today. Everything is paper-based, no use of e-mail, owner does not own or use a computer. Turnover is nearly 50% annually and jobs are realigned almost monthly to compensate for the turnover. They have not had a new client in 18+ months and clients are leaving due to both poor performance, but moreso due to lack of customer focus and service. They do not proactively call on their clients, but wait for them to call in. In many case, they are calling in to move their business elsewhere. The company burns through a tremendous amount of cash monthly which has to be subsidized from outside resources.

    Advice to Management

Let people do their jobs, don't second guess, streamline management and provide roles for each manager that are consistent. Have each role perform and assign roles and responsibilities to all. Further, each manager must be assessed on similiar standards. Listen to your managers and implement their recommendations. Do not be afraid of change or accepting ideas.

    Pros

The commission is SOOOO easy... i make at least $1,000 in commission and we get paid over a month's period for commission and we also get paid hourly without a limit on how many hours we can do a week.

    Cons

On the slower months, it becomes REALLY AND EXTREMELY boring.

    Advice to Management

    Be more involved
