I have been working at Rackspace full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Culture is number one. Rackspace selects people who are passionate and want to do good. Community involvement is plenty. Work life balance is very good. Learning opportunities are abundant and employees are encouraged to grow.

Cons

Cross-teams project to launch a certain release is often badly managed. No one understands the overall technical picture. No one was put responsible. Thus when there's an issue, it took a long time to finally identify the problem.

Advice to Management

Less re-active. Less churn to allow developers to be subject matter experts on something, before moving them around to other projects.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Innovative, fun and great place to work. Smart co-workers and a leader in hot market. Strong values and culture that company strives hard to maintain.

    Cons

Growing pains and my organization has been so focused on tactical work that it has lost sight of strategic work but that is looking to change.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of management and leadership that are not performing sooner rather than later.

I worked at Rackspace full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

great co-workers, ability to learn across peer groups, access to technology, elements of a meritocracy, opportunity to build a career.

    Cons

Work life balance can be a challenge - not nearly as bad as Amazon. Being a "hero" is encouraged, it is the norm. Immature products pushed to G&A (industry issue - not just Rackspace).

    Advice to Management

Take care of your Rackers - they are the core differentiator. Keep your standards and expectations high, and reward excellence.
