I worked at Rain Bird full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great co-workers, good pay, good working conditions, a lot of autonomy, performance oriented, results count

Cons

Jack Welch's "Raising the Bar" philosophy of improving staff quality by placing the worst (how subjective can this be) performing 20% in corrective action continually is archaic. It would be much more productive to fire the hiring managers that hire weak perfomers. HR has been effectively shut down by an engineering approach to staff management, and they know it. Rather sad really as there are truly great people going through the revolving door of employment.

Advice to Management

Do some benchmarking against the top companies in the US and figure out a better way to achieve HR goals than you are doing.

I have been working at Rain Bird full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They do pay fairly well...they have to have some reason to work there--never do seem to make your bonus!

    Cons

Pathetic middle management and regional managers--complete A-kissers to upper management
Yearly "review" a complete joke with little to no basis in reality including hard SALES Numbers
Forced Ranking system archaic and a sham way to drum up reasons to force good people out

    Advice to Management

If you have to keep in place the ridiculous policy of "forced rankings" by ALL means apply it to your middle-upper management and get their sorry butts out of the company. They all seem to be like career politicians..talking out of both sides of their mouths, lying about their performance and pushing people in front of the bus to save their jobs...
