I have been working at Raytheon full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Most managers allow flexible schedules.

Cons

Raytheon is in a constant race to the bottom with Lockheed Martin. If Lock Mart only restocks their bathrooms once a week then Tuesday becomes "bring your own toilet paper to work day" at Raytheon too. Lock Mart doesn't have profit sharing so Raytheon has to stop that too (how can they be competitive if you don't cut standards?). Your career will become an effort to not stand out. If you bring up deficiencies in the processes that produce sub-standard code you will be singled out for poor performance reviews and slated for retaliation.
Record profits are don't mean raises that keep up with inflation. Raises have more to do with the party that holds the Presidency than what is actually happening in the world. Management sends out awkward emails that are legally allowed to "inform" voters which party is more likely to keep you from losing your job.

Advice to Management

Understand that not all engineers are created equally. If you have trained engineers you cannot replace them with anybody that has a Bachelor's degree and no experience.

I have been working at Raytheon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits although they are shrinking just like all the other larger defense cos. Career advancement: If you are young and ambitious, there are good programs to develop you and you will be assigned a mentor.

    Cons

Experience not valued as much as youth, part of the cost cutting strategy is to get rid of older employees in some states and moving functions out to lower cost, less regulated states. Everything being equal and with both employees starting in the company at the same time, the younger employee is set up for success whereas the older employee is not given the same opportunity for training, support and advancement.

    Advice to Management

A good mix of young and experienced people is a good thing! Retain some legacy people to maintain stability. Make both groups feel appreciated.

I worked at Raytheon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Raytheon is a large, diverse company with many different opportunities. It can weather the ups & downs of defense market by shifting focus to international or civilian business, etc. If you are interested in doing different things, you can usually find something within the company.
It's hard to generalize with such a large workforce, but for the most part people care about their job, and try to do their best.
The company offers industry standard pay and benefits - not the best, but not bad either.

    Cons

Being a defense contractor, most programs are not dealing with cutting edge technologies. The company is very process driven, which stifles creativity somewhat, but allows for more consistent results.
Corporate culture is slow to change and react to markets.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in R&D and business development
