I worked at Raytheon full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Excellent benefits, vacation time, etc. We worked a 9/80 schedule which made every other weekend a three day weekend. Holidays were "saved" for the Xmas season, allowing extended Xmas vacation.

Cons

At Raytheon we had functional managers who typically did not assign work. The result was that our manager often had no direct knowledge of our work. Further, when managing others, those who performed poorly would often not name you as a manager, thereby attempting to obtain a better review.

    Pros

They teach you how to do your job. They do not overwork you (and if they do, they compensate).

    Cons

A bit sluggish pace. Feels like government sometimes.

    Advice to Management

You need to get into commercial business faster.

    Pros

You can make Raytheon your oyster if you make the right connections. If not, your fuse is lit and will go off before you retire.

    Cons

Great potential as an employer is marred by terrified management. Stories of shrieking management from other Raytheon sites are true; I've seen them. Still, if you can withstand it, there are rewards to be harvested.

    Advice to Management

    Seek counseling. Soon.
