I worked at ReachLocal full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Excellent training in the are of search engine marketing and google certification. One week in "boot camp" is equivalent to a semester at a major university.

Cons

Very competitive sector competing against all the companies calling on businesses who promise to rank them at #1 on Google search results pages). Income potential is overstated to get new-hires to accept position. Their average length of employment is estimated to be 9 months to 1 year.

Advice to Management

Your unique selling proposition needs work. Mandatory telephone "blitz day" each week is miserable.

    Pros

    The training is probably second to none. They prepare you for what seems like it would be an easy job.

    Cons

    Turnover. A "senior rep" only requires about 4 months tenure. They can't hire people faster than they fire them or they willingly resign. False promises are delivered daily. "Things are changing", yet things have only gotten worse in the past year. The reputation of the company makes the sale a very difficult process.

    Advice to Management

    If you say you are going to do something, deliver on it. People are tired of being lied to and baited.

    Pros

    Great people! The products work for the client when they are implemented correctly. There are some great managers, but there are some awful ones as well.

    Cons

    Don't get me started. Growing too fast, cart before the horse, complicated commission structure, unrealistic sales quotas, and upper management is out of touch with the devision.

    Advice to Management

    Develop a culture of positive employee centered personal growth and simplify the compensation plan. Empower managers on the floor to make decisions that will help us sell.
