Pros

Red Hat associates are talented, smart, committed and supportive of each other.

Cons

Red Hat doesn't consistently reward high performers in ways that are important to associates or in line with HR best practices. I have personally experienced and observed situations involving others in which new roles are forced upon high performing associates as "career growth opportunities," even when associates make it clear that they are not interested in those particular roles. In my particular experience, I was given a choice to accept a management role or be transitioned out of the company. Red Hat talks about the importance of understanding associate interests, passions and career aspirations in facilitating associate career growth, but they don't walk the talk - including at the highest levels of the People team.

Pros

- Good team culture and work-life balance if you have the right management chain - Remote work if you're not close to an office - Leadership transparency and willingness to hear feedback

Cons

- Constant re-orgs without strategy are destabilizing - Manager pool is very mixed in terms of experience and skill - Poor role definition can lead to surprises at quarterly review time - Layoffs/reductions have had a chilling effect - Lower salaries compared to competitors
