I worked at Republic Services full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

The job is comm. based on number of units service and type of units serviced. The chance of increasing your pay is largely up to you. The routes very each day and through out the year. Your work alone to keep the customers happy. Good benifits and a fair work environment. Out in the weather all day.

Cons

Units are service 24/7. During the busy summer months can be burned out with 6 days and 50 plus hours every week. This includes holidays and especially special events.

Advice to Management

Hire more service drivers and let the drivers help in the winter time repairing units. Also get a union contract before they loose any more contracts.

    Pros

    Lots of opportunity to move within the company due to its wide geographic footprint.

    Cons

    The company has shortchanged its IT spend for years, Republic is throwing a lot of money at trying to bring its systems up to the industry standard.

    Advice to Management

    The company is trying to split the difference between having empowered field managers or forcing all decisions to be run through the bureaucracy. If Republic wants to be successful it should choose a path and move forward, the hybrid approach is doing nothing but damaging morale.

    Pros

    The company has frontline employees that really care about what they do and want to be appreciated.

    Cons

    Management's idea that the "Road Ahead" is somehow going to be better than today.

    Advice to Management

    The accountability at Republic Services certainly needs some explaining. The way the organization treats people should be embarrassing to any decent person. I'd like to know who is accountable for Republic Services not be in good standing with the corporation commission in August 2013. Makes you wonder!
