I have been working at Resources For Human Development full-time

Pros

The people are wonderful to work with, excellent team environment, collaborative. Flexible schedule. Good work/life balance. Some chances of advancement, depending on your position. Company is open to new ideas and suggestions from employees, creativity is encouraged. Open culture, everyone is approachable.

Cons

Upper management clings to an outdated business model in a show of allegiance to the founder and previous CEO, much to the detriment of the advancement of the company. They do not learn from their financial mistakes. Money is wasted hand over fist on projects that are poorly planned and executed, then more money is wasted trying to make it right. They do not know when to let go of really expensive projects, cut their losses, and find something else. Rampant backdoor politics.

Advice to Management

Integrate standard business practices, don't be afraid of change, some centralization is necessary to keep control of spending and to keep things in line, as well as protecting the company and its assets.

    Pros

The people are amazing! Ability to move around.

    Cons

There are many agencies under RHD and not all of them run as stable as the RHD values say.

    Advice to Management

For LMCS, a agency under RHD, listen to your employees. We are in the front lines and have a great concept of what will help it work better!

I worked at Resources For Human Development full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generous time off, casual atmosphere, reasonable salary, opportunity for continuing education and enrichment. Employees genuinely care about clients and mission.

    Cons

Management does not follow written policies. They make a big deal about "values", but don't follow them. Management is very self-congratulatory, plays favorites, and has little clue about what's going on in the programs or with lower-level, front-line employees. Board is not involved at all.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the policies you've written. Network to see how other NPOs do their work and run their organizations. Listen to your employees. Treat everyone equally.
