Pros

Compensation is fairly OK if you negotiate upfront, people are fair and open with exception of management, growing company-may be great if you are good to analyze companys potential and financial growth

Cons

High handedness of management in day to day affairs, impersonal behavior by people in management, politics in a small company, bad project and time management, lack of adherence to standard practices, arrogance adamancy and lack of commitemnt to change and fix internal issues, disregard to interpersonal ethics, no review policy. Company seems to have resistance to think big picture and intolerant to any suggestions

Advice to Management

The upper management may be good and leading the company towards better things but the management closer to individual contributors are building blocks and should not be ignored at the cost of development towards acquiring new prospects/customers in the market. Company requires an overhaul to grow big

    Pros

    Responsys is the current leader in their space and has a solid product to go to market with. They have a strong customer base and the market is growing rapidly. The pace is steady, but not overly burdensome and you have the opportunity to work with some phenomenal clients. The development is attempting to move to the cutting edge and if they succeed, it could be a great place to work.
    The people that you will work with here are absolutely top notch.

    Cons

    Did not receive an annual Cost of Living Adjustment and the review process is undefined. Movement within the organization is not common and the opportunity for career growth is virtually non-existent. They tend not to want to extend salaries for promotions when they actually do increase responsibilities. In addition, they don't seem to treat their employees with all that much respect, which is sad because they've actually been able to attract some great talent to that organization.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees better and with more respect.

    Pros

    Responsys has built the most experienced and competent sales team in the email space. The team wants to win and they did. There is a compelling vision that management has laid out but to date they have been unable to execute against that vision. The email marketing space is growing very fast, and this provides opportunities for the people and the company to be very successful if they could execute their vision and keep their top people. I liked the people on my team and we worked hard together. The management team is pretty open to feedback and suggestions, and we used that fact to create a far more open culture at the company than was there previously.

    Cons

    Lack of emotional intelligence of the senior management team.
    Senior sales management has a negative communication style in email particularly, that leaves members of the sales team wishing they would leave the people management to those on the sales management team who are effective at it.
    Product management needs to get their act together. They have consistently under-delivered.

    Advice to Management

    Let your managers manage and think about the company as what it is, i.e. a collection of individuals with different needs and motivations, rather than as a "company" that somehow could succeed divorced from the people who comprise it.

    Management by anything other than data is a waste of everyone's time. Use it to set reasonable expectations for your employees and your board, and realize that you are competing against every other interactive marketing company out there for talent. The talent has the upper hand in your space. Embrace it.
