I worked at Restoration Hardware full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Great friendly people, a lot of the company is fairly young and creative vibe. Enjoyable place to come to everyday- specifically the Creative department of the company. Rewarding seeing the final product of the catalog and cool to be around development stages of the department.

Cons

It can be hectic at times and seem scattered or disorganized at times, but I think that comes with the territory of being in Creative. Of you have the right attitude and work ethic it's fine and everyone gets through long work hours and busy photo season together.

Advice to Management

Execs should not make every last final decision because it holds back the process of execution. I understand that they want to call the shots and finalize everything, but with the company growing as much as it is it is impossible. It slows everyone down putting everyone behind on time- time is money people! You have and pay directors because they are good at their jobs- trust there judgment!

    Pros

Setting the bar for luxury retail

    Cons

The company tells you they want you to have a perspective "a voice", as long as you agree with them.

    Advice to Management

    Stop leading out of fear.

"Generic, poor quality, mass produced furniture. Crazy CEO"

I worked at Restoration Hardware part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Used to love Resto...down hill slide. Style of furniture is unique.

    Cons

Wrong people, place, wrong time. Robotic responses to valid business issues that require strategic thinking. Most valued people asset is ability to pretend everything is going great, always at customer expense. Quality of product is falling in order to increase profit. Unethical, egotistical, crazy "visionary" at the helm who cares more about proving his stature (he's very short) in the retail world. Bizarrely compares himself to Steve Jobs and Ralph Lauren. Fired from William Sonoma years ago. Still has something to prove. Lost in all the bs and chaos is the customer. Operations and logistics a nightmare. 6-8 month wait for furniture because it's "artisan and handmade and exclusive" is just code for we don't know how to manage inventory, operations and strategy or pipeline. Broken from top down.

    Advice to Management

The board needs to truly rid themselves of Freidman. Go back to the basics. Quality and people. Empower store teams. Celebrate diversity of ideas and collaboration while creating a better brand image. Why do you want a company full of robots? Non sustainable long term foundation creating. Product is trendy...what's next? Without a strong foundation, houses crumble and buildings can only be as tall as their foundation is strong. Business will increase until market saturation occurs. Decorating for dummies. Pedestrian, wanna-be, poor imitation of designer, generic, a wealthy mans ikea.
