I have been working at Ricoh full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good experience for recent grads - if you can stick it out for 18-24 months, and do a halfway decent job, you'll have recruiters fighting over you. Good stepping stone to higher-paying sales jobs. If you can sell copiers, you can sell anything.

Cons

Extremely high turnover. Most employees last less than a year, and turnover here is higher than the rest of the industry. Low base pay, extremely low commission and bonus opportunity, even if you're over quota. Managers are forced to micromanage all employees, regardless of performance. If you want to do well here, you need to work at least 12 hours a day - be in the office before 7, get out in the field by 9, back to the office at 5, don't leave til 7 or 8. Internal processes are a nightmare right now, due to the Ricoh/IKON merger, inventory constraints and billing issues. Way too many internal meetings and pointless trainings.

Advice to Management

Take care of your employees, and they will take care of you. The turnover is outrageous, due to the lack of income potential. If you spent a bit more money on retaining quality employees, you'd save SO much on new employee training and acquisition. Eliminate the majority of the "meetings", and let us get out in the field to do what you hired us to do - SELL!

I worked at Ricoh full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are some very dedicated people still working there, but the several rounds of layoffs have decimated some very key talent. Pay is still good, benefits good.

    Cons

Key talent is leaving, either by layoffs, or by retirement. What customers remember as Printing Systems, or InfoPrint Solutions, is no longer there. Service in the field has been hit very hard by layoffs, so expect to see customers start to bail. Expect to see that Ricoh takes over all intellectual capital and patents. That seems to be the only reason they got involved since they don't seem to know how to run this type of division.

    Advice to Management

You've done your damage. Just go away and let the company die.

    Pros

Ability to do your job without lots of management direction and over site.

    Cons

Control by Ricoh Americas which takes direction from Ricoh Japan. Business changes do not take realistic business case and are just executed based on Ricoh Japan direction. Business will not exist in a year at rate they are going.

    Advice to Management

Rebuild company with dedicated employees and utilize sound business cases to make decisions. Manage business in country (locally) instead of from Japan.
