I have been working at Riot Games full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

- Flexible Work Hours
- Excellent Benefits
- Bright, Cheerful Workspace
- Unlimited Growth Potential
- Passionate, Driven Leadership
- Excited, Supportive Management
- Exhaustively in-depth interview process

Riot Games is a pinnacle in the game industry, exemplifying the philosophy that a studio can maintain a large daily workforce, high quality and constant improvement and expansion without sacrificing work environment, salary or employee well-being

Cons

- Inexperienced leadership and management
- Occasionally conflicting goals and strategies
- Santa Monica traffic and living costs are prohibitive
- Lack of feedback on performance from management
- "Boys Club" mentality to process improvement and new ideas, if you're not already part of the in-group, your opinion is undervalued

One downside of Riot's meteoric rise to publish the most-played game in the world is a lack of foundation building and infrastructure stabilization. Young leaders and managers bring drive and passion to a workforce, but inexperience and some naivete cause the success to rest on a shaky framework.

Advice to Management

Back off on the publishing cadence to spend more time nurturing and growing employees.

I worked at Riot Games full-time

    Pros

    ++ Amazing game. Global phenomena.
++ Incredible dedication to player experience.
++ Opportunity to work on cutting edge projects in select departments.
++ Company culture (in theory). Advocates transparency, self reflection, and team work.
++ Work experience for junior employees (new college grads will love this job).

    Cons

-- Inexperienced leadership. Rushed decision making and poor personnel management.
-- Personal growth. Difficult to find mentors for positions above an associate level.
-- Lack of humility. Tone at top prevents honest problem solving for leaders below.
-- Work-life balance. Difficult to have a life outside of work.
-- Overly social culture leads to group think mentality in day to day decisions.
-- Company culture (in practice). Young culture lacks selflessness and mature responses to interpersonal problems.
-- Riot Games only has one product, which leads to diminished opportunities and limited career growth.

    Advice to Management

==Slow down the pace. Your employees are burning out and fatigue is creating inefficiencies.
==Reward those who are willing to solve mundane yet important problems.
==Listen to those who have well-intentioned criticisms of management & processes.

    Pros

    - Thorough interview process
    - Culture fit is as (if not more) important as technical skill
    - Great perks (fully stocked kitchen with fresh fruit, cereals, snacks, teas, and coffee)
    - Lots of opportunity to learn and grow
    - Flat organization; open seating and little hierarchy

    Cons

    - Location: traffic is difficult and finding a place to live close by isn't easy
    - Explosive growth, can feel a little unconstrained
    - Positions and responsibilities are nebulous
    - Work/Life balance is tough; long days are expected and the norm
