"Rite Aid was an awful place to work."

Former Employee - Assistant Store Manager in New York, NY

I worked at Rite Aid full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

They hired me. That's it. The work schedule was awful. The hours were awful. The morale in the store was awful.

Cons

The store was always severely understaffed. It was not uncommon for a store to get trashed during the day and have one person scheduled to clean it. Everything fell on the assistant because the store manager never closed.

Advice to Management

Declare bankruptcy.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Rite Aid full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I do enjoy the Monday-Friday off by 5, which is a rarity in retail-land. There is a lot of flexibility and it's quite open-ended as to program execution.

    Cons

It's a job in middle management for sure. Bosses come up with ideas at corporate and the ideas translate through the food chain to those of us who are expected to execute in the real world. It is a very one-way chain, all the ideas roll downhill and criticism or critique is not accepted, execute as drawn or else.

    Advice to Management

    Seek feedback sometimes!

I worked at Rite Aid full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The majority of the customers were wonderful, my co-workers were great. I learned so much about retail and photo processing. Must be willing to work hard.

    Cons

Corporate shows little to no respect to their faithful employees.

    Advice to Management

If you have someone who has stuck with you for five years and done their job well, reward them with enough pay to be able to support themselves.
