I have been working at Ritz-Carlton full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, training, branding/ resume builder, experience, challenges will force you to grow, no hand holding, VIP's, awesome teamwork, Some really awesome leaders (as with anywhere), good cross departmental relationships

    Cons

Work life balance, (as with anywhere people can be burned out), contrary to popular belief they do not always pay the highest salaries do your homework and ask for what you really want, lack of respect for employees when it comes to hourly staff communication

    Advice to Management

When you know that there is financial discomfort and that a resolution is cutting the hours of your line employees tell them in advance that this is a possibility. We would advise our clients of any conflicts, the same courtesy should g to your staff so they may also prepare. Seasonal is one thing, rolling months is another.

I have been working at Ritz-Carlton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As in most service industries, the vast majority of your money is made in tips (cash), and they feed you very well and provide and clean all your uniforms. Good travel benefits-many times you can stay at a nice Marriott for $39 per night. Very good tips during high season-at least $200-$250 per day.

    Cons

They basically own you and treat you like a slave. Be prepared to deal with some of the most rude, unpleasant, and demanding guests you could possibly imagine. Forget about family/social life, as your schedule changes every week and always includes weekends.

    Advice to Management

Advise middle managers to treat front line employees like humans, instead of like slaves. Give employees more say in their scheduling, and utilize more seasonal employees to take a little bit of pressure off the full time staff during high season.
