Pros

Riverside publishing supports a number of client oriented software solutions that make a real difference in the world of early childhood assessment and development.

Cons

Analysts will work on the same project for very long periods. The company relies heavily on a contracted force which results in quite a bit of turnover.

Advice to Management

Develop your tech team with analyst career development in mind. Even if most analysts are contracted, they are still interested in bettering themselves and expanding their horizons.

    Pros

Competitive salaries. Friendly working class staffers. Job advancement a real possibility. Ability to direct day to day work of employees reasonably autonomously.

    Cons

Poor communication from upper management. Poor communication from HR staffers. A lot of shifty, behind the scenes posturing going on that is beyond the norm at most companies.

    Advice to Management

Be as transparent as possible with information disclosure to all levels of employees. Say what you mean, and mean what you say.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The San Francisco office full of smart, talented co-workers. Emphasis on open communication and transparency. Web start-up environment (nicely stocked kitchen, catered lunches, fun extracurricular activities).

    Cons

The typical negative aspects related to merging with a parent company (i.e. two rounds of layoffs and the eventual closing of the SF office).

    Advice to Management

Some critical missteps made by Riverside caused the product to suffer and led to it's decline. In the humble opinion of this former edusoftie.
