I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Diverse customer base helps in bad times keeping people employed. Lots of areas to move around to find the right fit.

Cons

the company is being destroyed by HR. our benefits are falling all the time because the company is always trying to improve short term numbers. they are upsetting a lot of employees with changes like eliminating job bands, cutting vacation carryovers, reducing 401K match. these only result in short term bottom line improvements but are increasing the rate of employees leaving.

Advice to Management

Quit treating the employees like numbers and quit expecting to retain or attract top talent with "average" benefits. RC was built with talented employees drawn by above average benefits and will be reduced to average with the moves made in the last 10 years.

I worked at Rockwell Collins as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Rockwell Collins was a nice place to work and gather great knowledge. They ease you into your job roles so you don't have too much to do too quickly. You will then have your own tasks but can always ask coworkers for some advice on the situation.

    Cons

While working at Rockwell, you are mostly focused on your own tasks. You don't exactly get a wide scope of the company. I worked in the Cedar Rapids downtown office and was not taken for a tour of the main campus until 1.5 months into my internship (by a coworker).

    Advice to Management

Give a campus tour to all new hires to the Cedar Rapids branch of Rockwell. It really is amazing to see all of the things going on in there. New hires will get a sense of what they are actually working towards.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work environment is friendly and is fairly stable, benefits are great and is an all around great company to work for.

    Cons

The hiring of under qualified and sometimes with little to no ethics personel to fill positions due to a sudden increase in demand of products.

    Advice to Management

Create an opportunity for technical employees to move into engineering positions.
