Pros

Opportunity to work with *very* intelligent people, most people there are quite nice and friendly, pretty good benefits (such as Krav Maga for $25/month!), privately held organization so no focus (AT ALL!) on quarterly profits. Gained a lot of experience in how a private, family-owned organization functions.

Cons

Roll seems to turn over a lot of people, and it appears like a lot of people are simply trying not to get fired. Politics are crazy...say the right thing to the wrong person and you're gone. Growth seems to be coming only from acquisitions, and there is virtually no mindfulness to actual expenses. Tons of money wasted, and despite the talk of moving to 'shared services' the companies in Roll all continue to operate nearly fully independently, duplicating basic functions such as A/P and purchasing. Despite itself, Roll seems to make money.

Advice to Management

Not really any advice for management...they wouldn't listen anyway.

    Pros

As a junior employee, this is a great environment to get exposure to and learn about different functional areas and types of companies. Beautiful facility, great cafe, wellness initiatives, and related benefits. Fun products you can be proud of. Leadership opportunities abound with constant growth initiatives.

    Cons

As you "age up" in the system, you become increasingly vulnerable to the whims of the owners - often, the good guys get fired and the bad guys stick because the owners have incomplete information about what is really happening within their companies or overreact emotionally to some event. Ultimately, it is not worth the stress and there are are no equity opportunities, so the best talent leaves when they find a better gig, leaving poor talent in leadership positions.

    Advice to Management

Encourage true wellness for your employees - almost none of the talented employees have any quality of life, which does not align with the stated goal of encouraging good health through your products, wellness teams, etc. Get good leaders in the right seats. This is a huge deficiency at present and prohibits you from reaching your assets' potential. Be someone that the good guys want to work for, so you don't keep getting stuck with the leftovers.
