Pros

Lots of time off
Independence- work mostly by yourself- once a month supervisor visits

Cons

Tied down to your handheld - Must record your schedule in advance- Its very hard to rework your schedule if you decide to go somewhere else due to a store need or road construction. I liked it much easier before the handhelds when you are free to go to any stores you decided to go to that day. The handhelds record when you enter a store, when you leave, how much product is there. It is very intrusive to getting the actual job done, which is make time to shat with the produce manager- which is what they preach to you about all the time "building relationships."

Advice to Management

Make the supervisors more accountable to how much time they spend in the field with the merchandisers. My supervisor rescheduled with me at least 4 times, hadn't seen her for over 6 months. Increase the bonus opportunities - $50 or $100 wasn't that much of a reward.

    Pros

Great health benefits, matching 401k, several paid holidays in addition to plenty of sick, personal, and vacation time off. Generous bonus pay opportunities. Very positive people to work for/with. Use of a company vehicle and gas card. Everything is done remotely, not having to go to an office everyday is refreshing and everyday feels like something new.

    Cons

Starting salary was not negotiable even with several years of related work experience. Workload can be pretty rough and sometimes has you questioning whether your being compensated fairly. Employees are evaluated once a month or more which makes you feel like you have to constantly prove your worthy of keeping the job.

    Pros

Great brands. If you end up working for the right department there, you can secure a great job with great benefits and a decent work life balance. If you have children, it makes it easier to set those boundaries then if you are single. The company is involved in many wonderful philanthropic initiatives.

    Cons

If you do not end up in the right department, you could end up burning the midnight oil for your entire stay. Set clear boundaries. The company is involved in many wonderful philanthropic initiatives, although their involvement is not altruistic. Roll is a sunny place for shady people.

    Advice to Management

Obey the laws when it comes to hiring and firing. You cannot squeeze blood from a stone. 16 hour days doesn't increase productivity, the same amount of work is done, the rest is wasted.
