I worked at Roseburg Forest Products part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Extremely committed to employee safety and well-being and ample opportunities for diversity and vertical progression. Most first line supervisors and even middle managers have been promoted from within and started in the general labor pool.

    Cons

Occasional corporate/union tension and vulnerability to layoffs mostly due to industry volatility. Corporate aims at cutting pension funds and employee benefits first when market starts to weaken.

    Advice to Management

Sustain safety and employee well-being atmosphere in place. Continue promoting from within and selectivity of seasonal rehiring.

    Pros

    - Good company if you are looking for oportunities to learn and horizontal career expansion
    - Great people at all levels
    - Humane leadership (which is not common)
    - Fantastic opportunity for beginners becuase there is no limit to what you can do if you are ready to work hard
    - Pretty good benefits
    - Nice location for people who like small towns and outdoor activities

    Cons

    - Becomes difficult to move up (very few internal promotions)particularly after you become a mid-level manager
    - Seems like they would like to grow but is not sure how to do that and what it takes
    - Absence of a real business strategy (both long and short-term)
-Frequent flip-flops on whatever little startegy they have

Following is only applicable if you plan to work in their HQ at Roseburg, OR
    - Location is not great if you like larger cities (very little shiopping, not a lot of restaurant choices)
    - Limited number of schools and other educational/ extra-currcular activities
    - Very little opportunities for a working spouse unless they are a doctor or work in the Helathcare industry
    - Housing is unreasonably expensive (seems like you won't get enough for what you pay)
