    Pros

    Great benefits
    Multi cultural teams
    Internal promotion opportunities
    Flexible

    Cons

They once were a great company when I started. But as the years have went by and I have been in many stores the companies thoughts went wrong. It is about making the most money and thus giving us little payroll and giving senior management a huge workload. Unfortunately they have also chosen to higher outside Store Managers who do not have a clue and the managers under end up doing portions of the Store Mangers responsibility. Ross has lost its original appeal and is heading in a terrible direction. Good luck with any HR issues or management issues. No one will listen, they act like it but nothing ever comes from it. Very disappointed. I just recently left the company, trust me when I say there are much better work environments at other retail companies.

    Advice to Management

Really hold people accountable, be realistic when you come to a store chances are they have spent tons of payroll planning and cleaning up a hot mess. The majority of the Store Managers do not work there 45 hours and many Assistants as well. A lot of favoritism is going on in the stores and a lot more corporate visits and DM visits would really let the staff know corporate cares about them and store condition.

I have been working at Ross Stores part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

20% discount, some stores have great management (mine included). 3-4 times a year you get a week of "double discounts" (40%) which is AWESOME. Great job for school-age/college students who just need some money and don't mind crappy work.

    Cons

Too many schedule changes without notification, when you are hired or scheduled for one job you end up doing many of the other jobs in the store while you already have your own job to get done because they never schedule enough people. Also, usually one person ends up doing all the jobs in the store because some people are allowed to slack off and management doesn't care as long as the work is getting done by SOMEBODY.

If you are on the stock team you are usually scheduled for 22 hours per week, but if you get a big truck they will ask you to stay and don't take it very well if you can't because you have other things you've got to do outside your scheduled shift. Customers are usually brutal and management typically never takes your side on issues. The store is kept very hot in the summer (so hot the customers even complain that they don't want to shop in the heat) since the temperature is controlled from some other location.

If you are PERFECT you will be lucky enough to receive a few cents raise every year. Management usually is very lenient with the slackers but very harsh with the hard-workers (who work hard for VERY little pay or recognition). They act as though you are the devil if you call out with a legitimate reason for your first time in a year, yet they let some people call out for no reason all the time. They don't realize they are driving away their most loyal hardworking employees, though they don't seem to care.

    Advice to Management

Pay your associates what they deserve and stick to your own policies. Treat your associates with respect and side with them on issues. Work with them to solve probems with scheduling or personal issues outside of work. They DO have lives.
