I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Compensation is better than average for the market and the business model is a successful one especially in a tough economy.

Cons

Political gamesmanship at the executive level makes it difficult to implement changes. Performance is evaluated on subjective points of view rather than on measurable objectives. Has a culture that is so focused on bottom line financial results that valuing people and recognizing contributions is not important.

I worked at Ross Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

20% discount all year and 40% twice a year. Some of the people are awesome.

    Cons

Most of the customer were nasty, rude, entitled people. The management was bad, one after another, they were fired for various reasons, all incompetence. They made working there a drudge position and tried to convince everyone they were "one of us" and "all in this together." Which was a lie. Whenever the hard work happened, they gave platitudes and motivational phrases and hid in the office.

    Advice to Management

Managing means jumping in and helping when there is extra work. Motivational phrases annoy and demotivate employees; we are not stupid, do not treat us as though we are.

    Pros

pros? what pros? company flying by the seat of their pants

    Cons

Almost too many to list. Confused leadership, ridiculous staffing, zero ability to forecast sales or freight flow, daily skidding from one ditch to another ditch.

    Advice to Management

    Try working in the stores.....
