I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Compensation is better than average for the market and the business model is a successful one especially in a tough economy.

Cons

Political gamesmanship at the executive level makes it difficult to implement changes. Performance is evaluated on subjective points of view rather than on measurable objectives. Has a culture that is so focused on bottom line financial results that valuing people and recognizing contributions is not important.

I have been working at Ross Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

the company offers a 20% employee discount

    Cons

no advancement with in the company, poor hourly pay, part timers only get 18 hours, full timers are given too much to do & no time to do it, District managers & Upper Management are out of touch with the store employees, Lack of open communications, Fear Tactics used on employees

    Advice to Management

company preaches open communication with team members but no true. Upper management needs to experience all jobs within the store before judging. Company only wants to hear the good and not the bad. Regional management & Corporate need to look hard at themselves

I worked at Ross Stores part-time

    Pros

    Easy to get the job.
Management is understanding with new employees.
Relatively easy to rise up because they need people.

    Cons

    Way too fast-paced.
Very limited training; they just throw you onto a cash register and expect you to fend for yourself.
    Crazy amount of customers.
Stock room shifts always run longer than scheduled. So you could be scheduled to work from 9-2 but you really end up working until 5 or 6 usually, sometimes as late as 9 PM.
    Often get scheduled outside availability.

    Advice to Management

When an employee is sick, please send them home. I know you're a growing store and you constantly need people but try and understand that sick people are contagious and can get other employees and customers sick. Case in point, I caught something so bad while working alongside a coughing coworker, that I had to quit and it took me months to recover.
