I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

I had an all-around amazing, caring, hardworking, understanding Store Manager. I am also lucky enough to work with extremely friendly, talented, and passionate team members.

Cons

Very strict about certain policies yet they don't have a clear cut attendance policy.

Advice to Management

Please get to know the hardworking individuals that work hard and show loyalty. Stop promoting from outside the company because it drives down morale.

I have been working at Ross Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They can be flexible with schedule. Lots of call-ins are allowed. If you're loss prevention you'll have better wage and you wont deal with bottom-of-the-barrel customers

    Cons

Managers. General Store manager probably gets a bonus so he probably has an incentive to cut hours or not schedule many people for a given shift and just let them deal with it...oh and customers are douches half the time

    Advice to Management

Stop following stupid company policies, grow some balls, and use common sense.

I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Successful company that continues to grow each year.

Great people, brand new corporate office, good exposure to the retail industry.

Easy to move up if you stay motivated and hard-working.

    Cons

It can be difficult to work with the New York office. They do not seem to follow through with Allocation recommendations, and the "partnership" management stresses is more like a secretary/boss relationship.

Information is not always communicated between teams, and in some cases it is done inherently. This usually ends up making one group look incompetent, even though it wasn't their fault.

Managers are relatively young and cliquey, and sometimes immature, which can lead to an uncomfortable working environment.

Workloads are not balanced amongst analysts.

No online retail platform, which may hurt the company later on.

For salaried employees, working hours are not as flexible as they should be. New York office has summer hours and corporate office does not.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with all groups involved when communicating information, and avoid micromanaging every aspect of a project.
