No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Ross Stores full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Good benefits, good salary for a retailer, great at building teams

Cons

If you like to be micromanaged, then you've found your employer. If Freud were to psychoanalyze this retailer, anal retentive would be the diagnosis.

I have been working at Ross Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The employee discount is pretty decent, and they are also flexible with your availability.

    Cons

The pay is ridiculously low especially considering the type of work they expect of you. Everyone starts out at $7.25(minimum wage), after 6 months you receive a raise. However if your start after the raise period, you have to wait a year for raise time to come back around. Raises are a bigger joke than the starting pay;"depending on your performance" your raise can be a maximum of .25. We are constantly understaffed and overworked, the stress of this job is not worth it. Also new associates are barely trained so older employees end up going behind them & correcting their mistakes, adding even more stress.

    Advice to Management

Actually train new associates, stop pointing fingers at one another & just solve the problems as they arise.

    Pros

Great employees makes this low paying job a good entry level job.

    Cons

No work life balance. Corporate office out of touch with stores and employee needs. Generally, understaffed and overworked daily. Get all you can upfront. Raises and bonuses are joke if you are not the store manager.

    Advice to Management

Treat your people better. Be fair with promotions and give all qualified employees a real chance to advance.
