I have been working at Royal Australian Navy full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good salary for actual work required in most positions, various allowances (housing, seagoing allowance, etc) boost to even higher level. Job security is near total, unless you're really incompetent you have a job for life. Some interesting work, experiences and travel destinations in seagoing positions.

    Cons

Length of time away from home when posted to a ship can be excessive, however usually offset by equivalent amount of time posted ashore afterwards. Excessive workload at sea in some positions, especially compared to very light workload in others can be very annoying. Lack of meaningful work in some positions, especially when posted ashore. The job security and lack of accountability mean a minority of your... co-workers are going to be effectively useless.

    Advice to Management

Far better workforce management and career planning needed, often very haphazard and reactive management of career. Small number of experienced and highly skilled employees do majority of work, more responsibility and accountability is required down to lowest levels. More accountability is needed for poor performance, it's too easy to do the bare minimum with no consequences (apart from lack of promotion). People... need to be fired for poor performance, make workplace culture the priority over keeping mediocre personnel.

I have been working at Royal Australian Navy

    Pros

Stable employment with a really good level of employer super contributions. Good options for professional development.

    Cons

Not for those people who do not like extended periods away from home- obviously this depends on specialisation but can be onerous on relationships.
