I have been working at Royal Australian Navy full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Working in the Royal Australian Navy provides you a secure job with a steady and dependable pay packet. You get to travel and see/experience different things; every two years or so you're likely to be posted somewhere new, which keeps it fresh and exciting. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement which means different roles, more responsibility, and better pay. You'll belong to a tight-knit organisation... characterised by camaraderie and many of the friendships you'll make will last for life. On top of that, you'll be serving the interests of the nation. All with four weeks annual leave (more if you're serving at sea) and plenty of extra benefits like subsidised housing, free medical and dental care and some medical benefits for your family, as well.

    Cons

Life in the Navy isn't for everyone, and isn't always easy. It often means long periods away from home and loved ones, sometimes without much contact with home. There are some rules on how you wear your hair, your piercings and your clothes; you'll have to give up a few of the freedoms that the average person enjoys while you're in uniform and doing your job. Sometimes circumstances can change quickly, which can... have a negative impact on your family life.

I have been working at Royal Australian Navy

    Pros

Stable employment with a really good level of employer super contributions. Good options for professional development.

    Cons

Not for those people who do not like extended periods away from home- obviously this depends on specialisation but can be onerous on relationships.

I have been working at Royal Australian Navy full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Challenges you more than any other job

    Cons

Changed for the worse over the years, too many people protecting their own careers to see how the Junior sailors were suffering

    Advice to Management

Survey the junior ranks and actually listen to them, hardest part as a senior sailor was watching my team continually flogged with no respite
