I have been working at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Can climb the ladder quickly if ambitious and lots of opportunities to get involved in group wide initiatives. Good training available.

Cons

Too much process and bureaucracy and takes a long time to get things done and changes made. Recent changes to technology operating model have made the way IT works more difficult.

Advice to Management

revisit technology operating model and fix it please.

I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time

    Pros

Lots of work-life balance as there isn't enough work to occupy time at the office. There are perks due to various sponsorship deals such as subsidised tickets to music concerts or Rugby 6 nations. Team members are nice enough.

    Cons

Lack of career development and clawed back bonus. Bad press. Highly political and lacking innovation. Lethargic culture. Poor morale.

    Advice to Management

Be less political, do some work and pay the Government back as quickly as possible and raise the share price. Hester inherited a difficult problem when he took over RBS. It's hard to say whether he has made a difference or not. His is a thankless job!
