    Pros

    Great work-life balance, you truly are the master of your own working life
    Genuine push for change in values and desire to build a better bank
    There are some good people who have clawed their way up against all odds
    Open culture, no bad feeling if the job isn't for you. People generally get along and the feeling in the building is generally quite positive.
    Not as much internal/ team level politics as with many other firms.
    Excellent benefits proposition, flex working welcomed, generous holiday allowance.

    Cons

    Bully-boy tactics by senior leaders to get their way; very much still cult of personality as you get to the top of the hierarchy- tantrumming execs usually get their way.
    Every few months the strategy changes; new buzzwords, new structures, new rules to live your life by...
    Unless you are under the wing of somebody senior your career will stagnate and die. The best thing you can do is join high, stay for a year or two and then move on.
    Horrible ancient systems that don't communicate with each other and frequently crash and leak.
    "Ivory tower" - in HR the leaders sit in Edinburgh and the little worker ants are based in London. They have no clue what anybody does, many times during meetings they're asking to review projects that finished months ago.
    Promises re; development and progression that never materialise.
    Too much dead wood; here since they were 16, close to retiring and basically coasting because they know it's too expensive to fire them.

    Advice to Management

    Pick a strategy. Stick to it. Pay attention to the base of the pyramid, it holds everything up and when it starts to fall apart don't assume that you can outsource/ get a contractor. Many much needed skills are walking out of the door because they are not getting noticed/ pulled up the ladder.

    Pros

    unlimited free coffee, good people, competitive pay, free transport, great food, work is good too if you are given a development project, learning curve is pretty gradual, parties!

    Cons

    none at all, but that's from an intern's prespective, also the technology used is pretty outdated, not to mention that the operating system is win xp
