Pros

Excellent work life balance -- lots of vacation time and short hours for wall street (~60 hours week); Generally nice managers and coworkers; well respected energy banking group and traders

Cons

Commute to Stamford; All bonuses are deferred for 3 years; harder to win deals with mediocre bankers and a mid-tier name; focus on debt with very little M&A or equity capabilities

Advice to Management

People are unhappy about the commute, so reward them with other perks (and street level pay, which means not deferred)

    Pros

    Benefits are good, not great
Company understands that it has failed its employees and makes an effort to treat them with respect to compensate
Compensation was very good before Bank of England takeover for those that were non traders ad investment bankers.
Interesting business challenges to work on
A lot of smart experienced people for early career associates to learn form

    Cons

Compensation for non traders and investment bankers has fallen for some staff by as much as 60% as a result of the unwillingness to pay bonuses
Firm is in strategic downsizing mode in order to pay back the bank of England and rebuild their capital base and risk profile
UK politics are very prominent driver of the bank's behavior
If you are a US employee, you shouldn't get too comfortable
Lost a lot of talent the past two years
Looks like a big UK bank with a big trading and payments business, not very global in a world where the ability to succeed in EM is important
Very political, very insular management culture

    Advice to Management

Management's inability to complete integration and separation with ABN AMRO (2 + years) and get on with the process of building a growing business that people can be proud to work for is a significant barrier to building long term success. Too many legacy "comfort senior managers? in lines of business, move em out, hire some energy make some tough decisions and get on with it. This is an almost completely non differentiated bank.
