I have been working at Royal Mail full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Steady job with no real skills beyond fitness and common sense needed

Cons

Victorian Management style, ineffective Union, bulling and harassment by management is ignored, in fact its built into the ethos of the company. No people management skills anywhere and work force is seen as a drain on resources that must be pushed harder and harder rather than used as a talent pool, or a assert that should be engaged and motivated.

Advice to Management

Treat your workforce as an asset and listen to their concerns, do not get your information from just Yes men, or the Union. They all have agendas and they are not always the same as yours and the workforce. Send senior managers unannounced or under cover into the workplaces all over the UK and get a real reflection of the state of moral.

    Great pay for the hours and workload.

    Cons

    Terrible IR, with the leadership paying only a cursory lip-service to professionalism.

    Advice to Management

    Employ new managers with professional qualifications, and train your existing staff properly.

    Pros

    Working outdoors in all weathers.
    The customers on my round, I am on first name terms with most of them.
    Getting out of the office.
    Office banter.

    Cons

    Being treated like idiots after over 23 years of service.
    Too much bullying by management.
    Employing casuals without proper checks.
    The job is being made more difficult.
    It is a young persons job.
    Lack of respect for and knowledge of health and safety regulations.

    Advice to Management

    Quit and let us just do the job, you are not really needed.
    Do a delivery over a period of a few weeks.
    Stop penny pinching.
    Start our jobs earlier again.
