    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I worked at Royal Mail as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is great for permanent staff
Good break facilities (catering services and recreational area)
Good exercise if you can't afford a gym membership

    Cons

Temporary staff are treated like slaves and are paid poorly in comparison to permanent staff, but do double the work
They are also disposed of at will. I was told ON THE DAY that it would be my last day with them (I was happy to go)
    Most staff seem unmotivated
Some capable staff have been there for many years and have been passed for promotion with no reason given
Managers are often immensely rude to their employees when they're under pressure to hit targets
Managers are also disorganised which explains poor delivery figures during the Christmas period. Deliveries were often sent to the wrong section of the sorting/distribution centre which delayed their processing
Parcels (including those clearly labelled as "Fragile") are thrown into their relevant cages/yorks like basketballs

    Advice to Management

Treat your temporary staff and Christmas casuals with more respect. They're not there to be used and disposed of at your will.
Take a closer look at why mail is delayed/lost. As organised as you may think you are, you're failing to identify weak areas such as employees sorting mail into the wrong yorks. For example, I witnessed many workers throwing first class parcels into Rest of the World yorks. These were permanent staff and I was a temp. I explained their mistake and they didn't care; an attitude which I witnessed across the floor.
