I worked at Rural/Metro full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

This company has really excelled in building quality teams to provide ALS and BLS patient care needs in many American cities. Teamwork, community involvement, value driven patient care, partners in excellence with hospitals, fire, police and other networks of providers all have become Rural Metro strongpoints!

Cons

Often, large staffing needs can put many employees in positions of not getting their voices heard. These larger ambulance companies have big footprints in communities and provide employment opportunities to many, but the problems often seen in larger companies are not exempt in Rural Metro's families.

Advice to Management

Remember the little guys out in the trenches and their needs are only what their patient's need.

    I worked at Rural/Metro full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

True EMS professionals get into this job to serve the community. This company give you that opportunity.

    Cons

Finance driven. More concerned with making numbers than providing exceptional service or an employer of choice environment

    Advice to Management

Get the finance geeks out of the drivers seat and put some real EMS operators in charge.

    I worked at Rural/Metro full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a paycheck but not much more. Their were some great individuals, all newer employees, but most left within the time frame I was there.

    Cons

VERY challenging work environment due to people and management. There is no communication largely because management can't make a decision and stick to the course. Because everyone was afraid for their jobs, no one was willing to help anyone else or go beyond their scope of work. No sense of belonging or community.
