I have been working at Ryan Homes full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great benefits, job stability, ESOP program, opportunity for advancement.

Cons

Not a lot of one on one with management especially for those who are in lower roles wanting to gain a better role within the company.

Advice to Management

Work more with people even at the bottom instead of just placing all the focus on the Sales Reps.

    Pros

Excellent Sales & Marketing training - comprehensive training at corporate offices. Great first job within the industry because of the systems they have created (i.e. production processes, paperwork reporting, etc.)

    Cons

Very little advancement opportunity (they promote from within and it is often pre-determined without open interview process). In general, upper management treats employees like commodities, which is very demotivating. Poor work/life balance - if you have a personal life, think twice.

    Advice to Management

Employees want to feel appreciated and recognized for the work their perform. Ryan hires type A people because then tells them that they aren't good enough for advancement. This is a great company in terms of how they run their business, but they need to take better care of their employees. There are a lot of talented people there that need to be recognized.

    Pros

hires great people in the field
good, in-depth training on all aspects of construction, financing and sales
    six figure income at plan

    Cons

straight commission but still a cap on what you can earn
bonus structure makes it difficult to get a bonus
poor communication from management to field
sales people are bounced around to different communities
3 out of 4 weekends required to work

    Advice to Management

restructure the bonus compensation...good sales people get into straight commission sales for unlimited income opportunities. When you manipulate their income by adjusting quotas month to month so that they are capped on what they can make, you remove the competitive nature of a good sales person to go the extra mile to make bonus.
