I have been working at Ryder System full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

If you thrive on having responsibility, you'll love working here!

Cons

All those responsibilities... you won't have the authority to make many decisions, as we were able to do. They have a leash on you now and they think that's a good thing. They will tell you (after you are hired) that to do the job properly it will take you 120-130 hours PER WEEK!! They will only focus on what you don't get done, not on what you do well. Get as much money as you can up front... raises are as frequent as snow at their headquarters (Miami). They have little respect for their front line managers.... be prepared to be un-appreciated.

Advice to Management

Get real on Service Manager expectations... let the Service Manager do his/her job and spend time with their (your) customers and build durable relationships. When you give out bonuses... pay the Service Managers first, not the sales staff! Without the service department, you have nothing to sell!

I have been working at Ryder System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with but not work for
    Great accounts
    Good benefits

    Cons

Pay sucks...no raise in 7 yrs
Upper management will stab you in the back in a heartbeat
No room to advance if your a driver...most managers could care less if you stay or go
when i started you seen drivers with 15-20 yrs not anymore...maybe 1-2 yrs
sad that they have let a great company go down the drain...might as well be working for JB or Schneider

    Advice to Management

Need to start taking care of the drivers you have and maybe you could retain them longer than 1 year

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, some flexibility, opportunity for training

    Cons

Culture changed to one of subtle intimidation by senior management leading to poor morale. Limited to no support from HR.
    Outdated technology

    Advice to Management

Need to work on changing culture to one of open communication and shared goals. Many people stay because work is hard to get. If economy picks up, I believe more people will be looking elsewhere.
