I have been working at SABIC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable, global company with good pay and benefits (middle of the industry, neither a leader nor a laggard in comp/benefits)

Lots of opportunities for career development in many areas of the business - if you take personal responsibility to take advantage of the resources available and don't just wait for someone to hand a career to you

The company is focusing its resources on operations with long term sustainability and profitability

    Cons

SABIC is still trying to figure out if it is a Saudi company with global operations or a global company that happens to be based in Saudi Arabia. This creates a bit of employee angst everywhere. For some, change is coming to fast and for others it is immeasurably slow.

As SABIC tries to unify its businesses around a common set of standards (systems and values), a level of bureaucracy has crept in that focuses more on checking the box rather than on delivering on business needs and leading real change.

Not so much a "con" because it has to be done - but as the business sheds unprofitable/unsustainable operations - there is upset in the ranks. It's just a reality for any global company.

    Advice to Management

Show the consultants the door - you have great resources in-house.

Focus less on "check the box" training and more on face-to-face educational experiences that can actually lead to change.

    Cons

Saudi ownership and influence is very often a marketing and sales negative
