"Too Much Monkey Business"

I worked at SAIC full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Many positions are full or partial telework, which is a major benefit if you live in the traffic-congested Washington, DC, area.

Cons

Astonishingly incompetent and unqualified supervisors/managers. This company is undergoing a much-publicized split; the current atmosphere is unstable and job cuts are happening every few weeks. The health insurance plan was recently whittled down to bare bones to the point where employees are better off finding their own insurance plans outside the company.

I worked at SAIC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very ethical. Focus is on customer as well as employee excellence. Job performance counts. Most managers will help career development within their contract and overhead budget constraints.

    Cons

SAIC sells services primarily to Department of Defense. Longevity is primarily based on your ability to stay billable on a contract. Most service contracts are 1-5 years. Nothing wrong with Defense work. Just need to understand the nature of the business.

  2. "A pretty good defense contractor"

I have been working at SAIC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, lots of varied programs/projects, interesting work

    Cons

SAIC is effectively a body shop for the Government. This is not necessarily a con but people who join SAIC should understand this and not take it personally that the company won't "carry" you when a contract goes away.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing really...
