I have been working at SAIC full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Talented people across a wide base of career fields, supporting virtually industry leaves a lot of room for career growth. The new company design affords ample opportunities for training, advancement, and relocation for those interested in travel.

Cons

Occasionally poor communication from upper management, historically silo'd areas of operation. New company uses a matrix org., which may address some of that - but it hasn't really flushed out yet; leaving many employees confused about roles and responsibilities. Recruitment and advancement opportunities not well advertised, and unless you're at a HQ location, likelihood of promotion beyond line management are slim.

Advice to Management

Engage employees more fully in the decisionmaking process, and communicate rationale in a clear way that includes analyzed alternatives. Seek talent out from within.

    Pros

Good teams to work for, decent benefits, good reputation, and strong ethical backbone.

Too much corporate overhead, pay was not competitive compared to their competitors.

    Advice to Management

Loose some of your overhead personnel and infrastructure to compete against similar competitors.

I worked at SAIC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Big successful company with fairly good organizational structure, pays well, generally speaking

    Cons

Cowardly leadership in contracting gigs (rather than stand up for employee rights, they cow-tow to the military out of fear of losing their contracts), also they ran afoul of several OSHA laws regarding overtime and break times, lower-level leadership wasn't very good, in contracting situations there was a lot of bullying allowed and inappropriate language and behavior in the work-place - none of which was ever addressed or in most cases it was pooh-poohed. Health Insurance benefits became terrible once Obamacare reared its ugly head.

    Advice to Management

Stand up for your employees even if it may put your precious contract at risk - you'll be better off for it in the long run. Don't allow inappropriate behavior in your military contracting environments.
