I have been working at SAS Institute full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits if you are a new parent or are on-site at the Cary campus are wonderful. The pay is on par with industry averages. Recruiting for younger talent is picking up. Upper level managers seems to have it made. There is very little movement when people reach this threshold.

    Cons

Benefits are lacking for remote employees (those that do not live in North Carolina). Advancement opportunities and clear career development are lacking especially for those outside of Cary, NC. Mid-career people beware. Don't believe everything you read in "Best Places.." reports. Do the research first and mold to your own circumstances. There is very little direct training for new managers and most are more task managers than people managers. Performance reviews are hit and miss. Some manager use them, some don't.

    Advice to Management

Invest and support the talent that is already present. There are many in the regions, working in remote offices or otherwise that would love to do something different to advance the company. Utilize the tools you have to cultivate a good work environment. Remember it's people that matter and that make the company. I believe I have head Dr. Goodnight say this a time or two.

    Pros

Great atmosphere. Good opportunities. Good compensations. Good communication with managers.

    Cons

Probably the only thing would be little low salary.
